Gelar doktor yang diraih dengan predikat sangat memuaskan itu setelah mempertahankan desertasinya mengenai batik dengan judul ”Pengaruh Orientasi Pasar dan Kapabilitas Inovasi dalam Meningkatkan Nilai Pelanggan Serta Dampaknya terhadap Keunggulan Bersaing Perusahaan”.

Sidang yang digelar Selasa (10/11) itu diketuai Prof Dr Ir H Mahfud Arifin MS dan sekretaris sidang Prof Dr H Engkus Kuswarno MS. Tim promotor di antaranya Prof Dr H Sucherly SE MS, Prof Dr H Faisal Afiff SE Spec.Lic dan Nury Effendi SE MA PhD. Hadir pada acara tersebut,

Desertasi dengan survei pada industri batik di DI Yogyakarta menyimpulkan, industri batik Yogya sebagian besar belum menerapkan orientasi pasar terutama dalam menerapkan orientasi pelanggan, orientasi pesaing dan koordinasi interfungsional. Industri batik Yogya secara umum mempunyai tingkat kapabilitas inovasi yang masih rendah.

“Terutama dalam inovasi pemimpin/manajerial, inovasi proses produksi, inovasi produk, sumber inovasi internal dan eksternal serta implementasi inovasi. Hal ini harus dibenahi dalam mengembangkan industri batik Yogya,” kata Edi di kampus UISU Jalan SM Raja Medan, Jumat (13/12).

Dijelaskan, nilai pelanggan industri batik Yogya secara rata-rata dalam kategori superior customer value. Orientasi pasar dan kapabilitas inovasi mempunyai keterkaitan dalam meningkatkan nilai pelanggan pada industri batik Yogya. Kapabilitas inovasi berperan dominan dalam meningkatkan nilai pelanggan yang superior pada industri batik Yogya.

Oleh sebab itu disarankan agar industri batik Yogya harus berahi masuk ke segmen pasar yang lebih luas dan tidak terfokus pada yang sudah ada serta melakukan pengembangan produk terutama batik kontemporer.

Sementara itu, dekan FE UISU, Edi Sofian mengaharapkan dengan adanya penambahan tenaga pengajar yang bergelar S-3 dapat meningkatkan motivasi para dosen lainnya untuk melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang yang lebih tinggi. “Hal ini akan meningkatkan kwalitas pendidikan di FE UISU,” katanya.

Kota Solo, Jawa Tengah dikenal sebagai kota Batik. Julukan ini rupanya memicu pikiran Indro, seorang perajin gitar di kawasan Pucang Sawit, Solo untuk melahirkan ide kreatif.

Ayah dua anak ini mengubah penampilan gitar yang biasanya berwarna polos dengan balutan kain batik. Meski dibalut kain batik, sang pengrajin menjamin kualitas suaranya tetap sama dengan gitar biasa.

Awalnya kreasi ini hanya dibuat untuk kebutuhan pameran seni kerajinan. Namun karena pesanan dari masyarakat makin banyak, gitar batik akhirnya diproduksi untuk memenuhi permintaan pasar.

Sebuah gitar yang dihargai antara Rp 250 ribu hingga Rp 350 ribu ini, setiap bulannya terjual sebanyak 50 buah. Pesanan datang dari berbagai kota di Indonesia.

Indro yang mendapat pengetahuan membuat gitar secara turun temurun dari keluarganya, mulanya hampir putus asa karena minimnya permintaan. Namun berkat kreativitasnya ini, usahanya sudah dapat bangkit kembali bahkan dapat menghidupi 20 orang karyawannya yang membantu membuat gitar batik.

That night, Obin hanged all her WOW cloths on the ceiling of the ballroom in a very artistic way. Oct 2, 2009 was indeed the day that I was so happy, elated, jumping for joy to see everyone wearing batik. UNESCO has officially declared Indonesia’s batik — a traditional wax-resistant dyeing technique used on textiles — as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage in its session in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Now I wish everyday was like Oct 2 or I should start a trending topic #batikfriday at Twitter. It was a sea of batik everywhere, offices, the malls, the streets even at my office @ Bubu.com. So yesterday, I started the day by becoming the guest speaker at I-radio 89.6 FM to talk about my love for Indonesian Batik. That morning, I asked my close friend Insana Habibie to accompany me to be one of the guest speakers as well. She would be the perfect person to talk anything on Batik. She has the same passion as me, even better she designs and produces the most gorgeous batik cloths that I know of. So that day, I wore one of her design from ‘Limaran’ batik collection, a gorgeous grey batik wrap scattered with hot pink flowers then embroidered with silver and gold flowers. I wore it with my hot pink Mango silk blouse and a matching hot pink suede heels. Insana looked extra beautiful that day, she wore her brick brown batik with a nice casual white tshirt….so effortlessly chic. Love it Insana!

After the I-Radio interview, we headed to BPPT building, since I was invited by Bpk Kusmayanto Kadiman, Minister of Research and Technology to attend an exhibition and talk show on “BATIK: Kreatifitas Budaya dan Teknologi Indonesia”. It was Mas Iwan Tirta and Mas Komar from Batik Komar that were the guest speakers. The lobby of the building was packed with batik being exhibited all over and from everyone wearing them.
